Koley Ikayo

Koley started with us as a Lion Scout in late 2012. He is the oldest among our field team, and of the Ilkidotu age-set (the cohort above the now retiring warrior age-set). Koley is a researchers dream. He carefully scrutinizes any findings, ensuring to record nothing but the true facts. Koley has traced over a hundred depredation events, tirelessly hiked the hills to set up and operate many of our camera traps, and he is our master of wound treatments. His gentle manner and way with people is a true asset, and we have now advanced him to assist with community outreach. Engaging with the people of his community, providing advice and discussing coexistence issues is his favourite part of the job. He now gives presentations to schools and gatherings, telling about our work and showing photos of the local wildlife. Koley’s favourite lion is, of course, Kalamas! The hairy bellied male that we first learned about thanks to Koley’s camera trapping.
