It's #GivingTuesday today, and after a whirlwind of a year for KopeLion, we'd like to say thanks for all the support that we've received from everyone, our donors, supporters, our hardworking team, the authorities we work closely with, the Ngorongoro community, and those who say, 'well done', 'sorry' or simply listen.
Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) is a critical site for lion which are classified as ‘Vulnerable’ on the IUCN red list.
Having counted and verified all observations of lion presence in the two administrative wards of Misigyo and Ngorongoro between October - January, we held the first ceremonies to announce how much the villages have earned during the period.
Thanks to the NCA Authority for providing us with their 'wooden house' and to Ndutu Lodge for their support in refurbishment, KopeLion has a new office and staff bedrooms.
We're delighted to announce that through KopeLion has received a grant from @insidenatgeo, through Ingela Jansson, our Co-founder, and Nat Geo Explorer.
Up to now the hard work of the KopeLion team has paid off and resulted in having no lions lost this year to retaliatory or traditional hunts...but the toughest work, this December, is still to come.
